I'm borrowing my dads car in az and just got a ticket for out of state registration?

Stevie Kizziar: Take the ticket to court. Provide proof that the car in not in your name, and is only being borrowed. The ticket should be dismissed. You do not need to, and actually cannot, register the car in AZ because you are not the legal owner

Billie Bratchett: The officer was having a bad day. And human, and made a mistake. You should be able to call them and state to you were just visiting. You not have time to appear in court, so do your due diligence and call the chief of police and anyone else you deem important before you are your way back. You don't want warrant out for you because you did not appear in court. Make sure you are rated on Dad's policy as well though. When you come back to MN from Arizona, please bring back the warmth with you. We are still freezing here!!...Show more

Myriam Hetjonk: Sounds to me like the traffic Officer got over zealous if, and I stress if, you are telling the complete truth here. Court judges can get cranky with Of! ficers who give out tickets that they should have been more careful to issue. Take to court prof along with all the cars registrations that your dad loaned you the car. Next you must convince the judge that you are only borrowed the car and you just might walk out with nothing but only you know if you are being completely straight with us here. If your not, then the judge will know better and be prepared to pay....Show more

Scot Sepulbeda: No. You can legally borrow an out of state car.

Marcel Then: No - that's bananas. It's not your car, the registered owner does live in MN, there is no need to change the registration. My advice is to go to the court date, show the registration - it will clearly show your father and not you, explain the situation and I'm sure it will be fine. Good luck!
