What kind of car can I buy that's best on gas mileage and maintenance cost?

Mildred Pombo: I use cars.com for this. ;)

Rheba Cockman: Get a used Kia Optima Hybrid they are great on fuel and there very eye catching! The Kia Optima Hybrid used 5 and a half tanks of gas crossing threw 48 States! When i read that i went out and bought a used one at carmax cause i couldn't afford new! I picked mine up for around 21,000 with very low mileage there very good cars! But if you want newer go for a Kia Rio! you can pick a fully loaded Kia Rio brand new for about 19,000 just there to small of a car for me!

Danyell Rowback: I'd suggest getting something used. You can find lightly used cars and you can save a lot from the original price so it can be a really good deal. I think any of the brands you are talking about are just fine. A Prius or other hybrid will probably get you the best gas mileage, but you will likely pay a bit more for a hybrid than just a regular car. The Hyundai Sonata also comes in a hybrid and I've heard a lot of good things ab! out it as well.

Doreatha Kjellsen: wow, 20k is way too much for a good used car. get an early 90's Honda accord wagon if you need a lot of room, get an early 90's Honda civic if you don't, get any VW TDi if you want a comfy long distance cruiser, get any Subaru with a 2.2L engine from 96'-99' if you need AWD, get an early Honda odyssey if you need a van, get a 90's Toyota if you need a truck. I'ts as simple as that, all get great gas mileage and all have extremely cheap parts, all are abnormally reliable, and as i've placed them in category they are perfectly suited for the rest of your life. also none of them cost more than $6k....Show more

Solomon Belback: Stay away from the hybrids, they are fire traps and no longer get you better mileage. The Prius only gets around 35 mpg now days. Not like the first ones that got 70 mpg. You want a low maintenance, high mileage, high mpg car, find a diesel. Mitsubishi, Nissan and Volkswagen all make a decent 4 cylinder dies! el. You will pay more up front, but it will save you major $$$! in the long run. High mpg, longer lasting, less maintenance, and now most places diesel prices are coming down as well....Show more

Donnie Bolio: I hate the Prius. Get a honda civic four door.

Hope Lundmark: We suggest taking a look at the Kia Rio. Its price tag, size, reliability and MPG seem to fit what you are looking for. The Rio comes either in sedan or 5-door hatch and maintenance is rather reasonable as well. We recommend you stop by your local dealership for a test drive. Good luck! Berry Gilmore: A Toyota Prius is the car you want. Not an new one but a two to four year old vehicle.

Kellie Waycott: Get a new car. Newer cars are better on gas mileage and not breaking down bcuz of newer technology. Don't get the prius unless you wanna get laughed. Im the guy that lowers my window to point and laugh at you bcuz your driving a prius, don't get one of those.
