What is a good teaching materials?

Rosella Figliola: I would say at the top of the list is:Appropriate level for student ability: It won't be helpful if the materials are too difficult for the students...if they get discouraged too early too fast they won't have fun and won't like being in class or doing the lessons, or using the language.Familiarity: if the topics and materials are about things unknown to them, it makes it difficult to understand...for example, a story about a subway train to students who have never seen a train or a subway might add to the confusion and difficulty of learning the vocabulary (esp in the case of ESL students)Color...adds a whole different dimension to the excitement and attracting interest to the lesson. They live in a world of color...black and white is not as exciting to their reality.Interest...you didn't say the level at which you teach, but giving them a variety of subjects can play off their natural curiosity to want to do the lesson.Interactive....the more active ! they are relative to the lesson, the more interested they get about learning. Getting younger students (who are natural nearly perpetual motion devices, and some get super fortified sugar highs) to sit still is almost mission impossible. Harness the energy and incorporate it into the lesson and in the process they get more engaged.Costs: in some (many) cases, budget realities rear an ugly head...so const effectiveness has got to be a characteristic.Durability: linked to cost effectiveness and especially budget constraints...how long will the materials last before falling apart or show so much wear and tear they become useless. This also includes kid-tough or kid-resistance...and well, some adults aren't that easy going on the gear either.Size: will the materials fit in the storage units, shelves, cabinets, folders readily available to you (can save the cost of buying storage units)Diversity compliant: materials that portray things in an unbiased and inclusive manner to p! romote mutual respect among all people regardless of age, gend! er, nationality, ethnicity, social status, etc.Grammatically correct...no sense using / presenting materials inconsistent with the way student papers are being graded.Holistically integrated...combines and integrates a wide variety of educational subject areas simultaneously to show how math, language arts, music, art, science, geography and technology are all used (some times simultaneously) in a multi-disciplinary manner indoors and out and integrating classroom learning with practical hands on skills.Sorry, I'm going to stop now. Hope this helps. Best wishes....Show more

Shawn Lelis: DEPENDS. you teach kids under 10 or above 20?under 10 yrs= colourfull picture book, outside learning.above 15 yrs= your physical appearance, dicipline point, good book, effective timing.

Cuc Gire: enable me say how i take advantage of the words. I used to instruct particular training on the secondary element, and that i had man or woman tutorial plans for each student, so this! consisted in practise cloth (for that student), for this reason, as I had 15 to 18 scholars, I had diverse practise "supplies". wish this helps. sturdy success.

Luis Mellon: Some of the criteria that I would use:1. Is the material relevant to your curriculum?2. Is the material current?3. Are their enough copies for each student?4. Does the material come from a reliable source?5. Have you examined the material for accuracy and clearness?6. Has it been written on the appropriate level for your students?7. Is it for free or at a reasonable cost?8. Does it come with good teaching suggestions?9. is the material free from racial, sexist and other types of stereotypes?10 Does the material provide for individual differences?...Show more
