Selling stuff as a teenager?

Rana Rudell: Can you return some items to stores for a refund? Sometimes they'll give cash back. Can you sell an older iPod or cell phone? Craigslist isn't dangerous if you meet in a public place.

Florencio Dingle: You can sell things for cash locally, or get your mom to help with Paypal. Until you're age of majority, you can't sign up for things that involve contracts

Jonie Lauria: Well, you're right about one thing; the internet is not the place to look. There's no guarantee your stuff will sell, you will need some form of credit card (although when I myself get paid via Amazon, it just goes straight into my bank account), and even if you do end up selling well, the time it takes for you to get your profit is very slow not to mention percentages are taken out based on your website you use to sell on. About your situation: if you're trying to materialize this $100 discretely, that might prove very difficult. As a teenager, $100 is quite a bit of money, and may! take time for you to acquire. The best thing to do is rip the band-aid off, and inform your parents you have misplaced their $100. If I were you, I'd apologize profusely. After taking whatever beating they throw at you, now's when you want to think about paying them back. First, look into odd jobs. If you know your neighbors well, you might want to look into any possible baby sitting, mowing lawns, or basic gardening maintenance they'd be willing to pay you for. It might sound tedious, and cheesey, but this is the best way to make money at your age.If you're really wanting to sell some stuff, and you happen to live in a house with a garage and driveway, I might also recommend a garage sale (with your parents' permission). I recommended this second, because this will require a bit more effort. In order to have a really successful garage sale, you will need to have a wide range of advertising - posters/papers visible on a decent amount of street corners. You'd be surprised a! s to the number of people who enjoy perusing these sorts of th! ings. For a garage sale, you will also need to have a generous amount of time on your hands to mind the "shop" for customers. Set your prices low, also, since garage sale customers usually will visit on the fly and generally won't be carrying hefty amounts of cash with them. Prices ranging from $1-$5 work best, and the stuff you sell you definitely want geared towards older crowds, as these will more than likely be your average audience. Make sure your "shop" looks clean, orderly, and welcoming. You may want to have some friends help you...but if you do, they may also want a cut of the pay, so keep that in mind. And, there you go. Two great, honest ideas that might make you some good money at a young age. Good luck, and I really hope your parents don't skin you lol take care!...Show more
